A small town has turned out for an annual get-together presided over by its mayor - a DOG.
Duke is the only dog in the country to be elected mayor and he bounded into office with a landslide.
The
residents of Cormorant, Minnesota were gathered at the weekend for
their annual Cormorant Daze event with stalls and parades.
And the nine-year-old French Pyrenees watched the day unfold from the position of mayor.
"Three years ago, it happened by accident, it was a write-in vote. You
pay a dollar and you can vote," David Rick, Duke's owner, explained to WDay .
Having served two terms, the fluffy white hound is as popular as
ever, and bagged his third with a landslide, celebrating with a victory
pat from some of his loyal citizens.
"I don't know who would run
against him, because he's done such great things for the community,"
said local resident Karen Nelson.
There may be a new challenger next time round, says David: "Everybody
voted for Duke, except for one vote for his girlfriend, Lassie."
