This “devil” got what he was due.
A despicable serial rapist, convicted twice for pretending to be a
police officer in order to viciously rape and rob prostitutes, was
sentenced Monday to 32 years to life in prison.
“That night I came face to face with the devil himself in human flesh,”
said the victim during her tearful victim impact statement in Brooklyn
Supreme Court about the heinous July 30, 2014, incident at the hands of
Jason Forgetta.
Forgetta, 39, was found guilty after a jury trial in July for flashing a
fake police badge to the sex worker,
who agreed to take him to a room
she rented at the Sunny 39 Hotel in Sunset Park, a notorious hot-sheets
haven.
Once there, the 26-year-old victim was told by Forgetta she was under
arrest. Forgetta then shoved the woman against the wall, put a pillow
over her head, repeatedly raped her and told her to take a shower to
“wash all the DNA” off, according to trial testimony.
Forgetta stole her wallet, cell phone and underwear before fleeing the
room. But the victim followed him to the street and was later able to
give cops his car’s license plate number.
“I remember you told me that God was not in the room that night. He
definitely was because he gave me the courage to run after you,” said
the woman as she wept along with her mother, who sat in the gallery.
The jury convicted Forgetta of predatory sexual assault, strangulation
as a sexually motivated felony, robbery and criminal impersonation.
Forgetta, a Level 3 sex offender with a long rap sheet that includes
multiple arrests for sexual assault, was previously convicted for
committing the same type of heinous crime in 2001. He spent more than a
year in prison.
“This serial sex offender is a clear and present danger to all women
and must not be allowed to be out on our streets,” said Brooklyn
District Attorney Ken Thompson.
Assistant District Attorney Lisa Nugent requested that Brooklyn Supreme
Court Justice Matthew Sciarrino sentence Forgetta to 90 years to life
in prison for “terrorizing” citizens of Brooklyn for decades.
“Today, I look upon my oppressor and I forgive you. But you don’t
deserve freedom, no one is safe with you around,” said the woman.
Justice Sciarrino agreed and slapped him with a 32-years-to-life sentence.
Forgetta, who sported a silver wedding band, remained handcuffed
throughout the sentencing and declined to give a statement because he’s
pending appeal, his attorney Joshua Horowitz said.
