Phone batteries' charge really don't last long nowadays - and with the invention of Pokemon GO , people are really struggling.
The
most convenient time to charge our phones up is obviously going to be
when we're not using them to message friends, catch up on the news or
boast about our food on Instagram.
Naturally, we'll choose to charge them while we're sleeping. Sounds sensible, right?
Wrong. According to Dominic Littlewood, a consumer affairs expert, that's the absolute last thing you want to do.
On yesterday's episode of Good Morning Britain he explained how leaving
anything on charge for an extended period of time can be incredibly
dangerous as it poses a fire risk.
And it's not just the fact that we're charging our phones for hours that should cause concern, but where we're putting them.
With alarm clock apps and others claiming to monitor your sleep patterns
if you leave your phone on the bed, more and more people are snoozing
with their phones under their pillows.
Dom strongly advised against this as phone batteries can heat up and set fire to your sheets.
What
do we do instead? He recommended: “Put it on a saucer. That way, if
gets hot at least the saucer isn’t going to catch alight. It’s going to
protect you a little bit."
Charging your phone overnight could also do long-term damage to its battery.
According to PC Advisor, you should never charge the battery all the way to 100%.
Their
website advises: "It won’t be fatal to your battery if you do a full
recharge – most of us are forced to do this every now and again in
emergencies.
"But constantly doing a full recharge will shorten the battery's lifespan."
Basically, stop charging your phone while you sleep - it's not going to do anyone any good.
